Shortly after midnight, Engine 12 was special called for manpower to a multi-alarm major strip mall fire in Penn Hills. Penn Hills and mutual aid companies had been operating at the gas-fed fire for several hours and needed additional manpower. Engine 12 operated on the scene for about 5 hours before being released by command. Engine 61, Rescue 4, and Medic 59 were the other Monroeville units operating at this incident.
