At Monroeville Volunteer Fire Company #1 we offer a very unique live-in program, providing college dormitory style living for members who wish to seek living space in exchange for volunteering their time to serve the Municipality of Monroeville.  Our newly renovated space offers a sleeping quarters which can house eight members, personal gear lockers for the storage of clothing and personal effects, and private bathrooms.  We also have a recently updated kitchen, which is fully furnished, and a large living room for relaxation and social gatherings.  In addition, as a live-in member you have access to high speed wifi internet, HD cable television, and full laundry service.  With all these quality amenities it is also important to consider that Monroeville Volunteer Fire Company #1 is conveniently located just 13 miles east of the city of Pittsburgh placing our station in close proximity to the Community College of Allegheny, University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, Point Park University, Chatham University, Carlow University, and Carnegie Mellon University.

To become a live-in member one must first apply under the general membership requirements to join Monroeville Volunteer Fire Company #1 as a fire fighter, emergency medical technician, or a combination of such.  A review of your application and qualifications will be completed by the Executive Board and interviews are conducted as seen fit.  Priority is given to those possessing a valid PA Essentials of Fire Fighting certification and/or an EMT-Basic/Paramedic certification.  For those applicants who do not possess one of the necessary certifications they are still eligible to be considered for a live-in position pending they enroll in a certification class within 6 months of joining.  A few other requirements of live-in members consists of responding to all emergencies when requested 24 hours a day, maintaining cleanliness of living quarters, sustaining a status of either full time employment or a full time student.  A combination of such is permitted on a case by case basis.
