Friday, April 23, 2010 - One thing that was different this year at FDIC 2010 was that AEV (American Emergency Vehicles) had our new Medic 18 on display. This is a first for our department in a show this big. It was a cool experience to have our truck in of the most talked about Expo's in the county. One of the only downfalls is waiting until 5pm on Sunday when the show ends to get our truck out so we could finally come home.
While enrt back to the ville we had to make a few stops along the way. Our first stop was a Singe vehicle rollover w/ injuries about 80miles outside of Indianapolis on rt. 70. With a new ambulance that did not have anything in it we had to make due with a Chief, Captain, and LT. Lt. Mcwilliams gained entry through the rear hatch of the vehicle to hold C-Spine while Chief McCollum and Captain Sonafelt checked the vehicle for hazards and did pt assessment in the vehicle. Fire/EMS/State Police units finally began to arrive and I'm sure were shocked to see a Monroeville EMS Unit first onscene. Crews assisted with extricating pt from vehicle. Great job to Wayne County Sheriffs Deputies, Richmond Engine 2 and Rescue along with Rural Metro EMS.
Once we cleared that incident we continued our travels home. About 6 hours later we arrived home in Monroeville. While exiting rt 22 near the mall we came up on a vehicle blocking the roadway. We were approached by passing motorists stating there was a crash. Once we approached the scene we found a singe vehicle crash with moderate damage to vehicle and a light standard laying across the roadway completely blocking it. No injuries were found along with no hazards. Scene was turned over to MPD and we continued to our station less then 1 mile away.
Finally our 6hr trip home had finally come to an end. Needless to say that our new truck and ready for the real deal now. Enjoy the pics!!
