Welcome and thank you for visiting Monroeville Volunteer Fire Department #1.

The municipality of Monroeville is located approximately 12 miles east of the City of Pittsburgh in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and covers approximately 20 square miles. Monroeville is comprised of single and multi-residential, retail, commercial, and industrial buildings. Populations range from 70,000-100,000 daylight, and over 30,000 nighttime. The Monroeville Fire Department is made up of five fire stations, which provide fire, ems, various phases of rescue services, and fire prevention / public education. The Monroeville Fire Department responds to a wide variety of incidents, both in Monroeville and also assisting neighboring communities. Station 1 is the oldest fire station in Monroeville, and began as Old Patton Twp. Fire Co. 1,which has evolved into Monroeville Fire Company #1 over 75 years. Station 1 provides 100% volunteer fire and rescue services, and combination paid / volunteer emergency medical services. Station 1 houses one 77' aerial quint, one heavy engine, a structural / technical rescue truck, two ALS/BLS ambulances, light-duty squad, chief's car.

As of right now Monroeville Fire Companies have been handling all types of water calls from flooded basements to motorist's trapped in vehicles with rising waters. Crews even managed to handle the typical fire alarms at the usual establishments. Good job by all MFD personal, MPD and the MECC.

JUST BEFORE MIDNIGHT LAST NIGHT FIREFIGHTER TIM DAYTON AND HIS WIFE WELCOMED THEIR DAUGHTER INTO THE WORLD. MOTHER AND DAUGHTER ARE RECOVERING AND DOING WELL.

EXTENDED STAY FIRE

Around 1135 in the afternoon MECC received a  call for a fire alarm at the Extended Stay in District 1. Alarm company then was reporting unknown type fire in one for the hotel rooms. Normal assignment was dispatched ( 1,6,3,T4, Truck 5 was oosrv). Chief McCollum arrived onscene establishing command. Crews checked bldg and found a smoke trash can on fires from somebody using it is an ash tray. All units were placed back in service. No injuries.

This weekend 15 members went to the annual Upper Ohio Valley Fire Rescue School held @ Brooke County Highschool. A wide range of classes were attended this year from NIMS 300, Engine OPS, Leadership Seminar and Strategy & Tactics class. All members had a great time and brought back some knowledge to pass on. Thanks to all that attended. Also thank you to all that helped with call responses this weekend.

BUSY WEEKEND

Well another busy weekend has come and gone for Company #1.  Thanks to all the crews that answered up to handle the numerous EMS and Fire calls this weekend.  The crews handled three early ems calls followed by two fire alarms in Company 4 district.  Around 1 am Saturday Companies 3 and 1 were dispatched to a reported car fire at the James Street Tavern.  Engine 12, C12, and C-14 handled the call and returned into service in about 1/2 hour.  Once again thanks to all that answered up.


 
SMOKE CONDITION IN APARTMENT BLDG

This evening Monroeville Communications Center received multiple calls of a fire alarm activation with a smoke condition in a local apartment building. While Fire units were responding Monroeville Police arrived  to find a moderate smoke condition in the apt after a grease fire. Units arrived checked the apt for extension by opening up a "hot spot" in the wall. No extension was found. Crews remained onscene while ventilation was taking place. Command returned all units after ventilation was complete and the scene was turned over to maintenance and the resident.

SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH

 In the early morning hours Station 3 Fire and Station 1 EMS were dispatched to Rt. 130 near the Spring Hill Bridge for a vehicle crash with injuries.  Ambulances 18 and 19 responded and at the request of C-30 (Hyzy), Rescue 1 added to the assignment.  Units arrived to find a 1 vehicle crash with moderate damage.  2 patients were transported to a Pittsburgh Trauma Center.  Station 3 personnel handled fluid control

STRIP MALL FIRE

Last night around 2330hrs stations 6,5,1 and CMD 32 were dispatched for a possible commercial structure fire, incoming units reported heavy smoke visible from rt 22. Engine 12 established supply line and took position on the front side of the bldg along with Truck 5. Initial attack crews stretched (2) 2.5in hand-lines while back up crews used 2in and 1 3/4 hand-lines. 2nd alarm was requested which brought company 4 and company 3. Shortly after that crews started to knock down the fire crews worked interior and on the roof until conditions were to dangerous. All units were then pulled from the bldg and exterior and master stream ops were established. Fire was under control in about 1hr of operations. No civilian injuries however 2 Monroeville firefighters were injured during the incident 1 was checked for smoke inhalation and 1 was transported to local trauma center after being struck vehicle a vehicle while attempting to connect water supply. Standby companies were assigned to the boro for assistance. Thanks to all Companies who assisted in Standby's. Pictures have been added Courtesy of Monroeville TV-15.

SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH

Around 0200hrs this am Station 1 was dispatched for a single vehicle crash into a telephone pole. C-11 was onscene with 1 vehicle into pole with the driver out of the vehicle. A-19 was clearing the hospital and responded to check out the driver. Pt was evaluated and taken to local hospital. Company 1 cleared.

RESIDENTIAL HOUSE FIRE

This evening stations 3,6,1 and Truck 4 were dispatched for a possible residential house fire. E-12 arrived onscene with smoke and fire showing. Crews stretched (1) 2in and (1) 2.5in attack lines to the rear of the house. Crews extinguished fire in the kitchen area and checked for extension. Units operated onscene for a few hours.
